Kilic Ali Pasa Hamam - Turkish cleanse and massage
Fri 04 Jul 2014
Absolutely sumptuous experience at Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami which is so positively reported across the internet and Tripadvisor. At a price that seems high by local standards, a similar experience in the west can't really be had. Justification for the holiday splurge out the way, its on the show.
The Hamami decor is modern, ultra clean and comfortable and service first class. After some confusion about it being time to strip down (once shown to your locker), you are down to a towel and slippers and waiting comfortably on the reception lounges.
Next up there is a wash down by an attendant and lay on the huge marble heated slab. Be sure to put your head on the upturned tin bowl as a head rest so you don't boil your brain (otherwise you will be reminded by the attendant).
If you are lucky, you will have a fellow Australian to speak about the Sydney property prices, or just pass the time quietly.
The real experience starts after 20 minutes with the scrub and wash, which I won't spoil, but suffice is quite intense, cleansing and a tad personal. Similarly the dry down is done for you and then returned to the lounges to savor the ultra ultra clean skin you have.
For the full experience I had elected for the 50 minute massage. It was fantastic and used fragrant oils to complete the sensory experience. The only hiccup was the failing audio speaker in the massage room. The base response was coming through as as though a moth was caught in the speaker, which required the therapist to go and change the track a one point. Minor point for improvement in an otherwise amazing experience.
All done and returned to the reception for a exit Sharbat drink and relax for 20 minutes before making way to the Istanbul chaos once more. 270 TL (135 AUD) all up for an simply amazing cleansing and relaxation process. Highly recommended Istanbul experience.
One more important thing. Its girls during the day and guys in the evening - which complicates things for couples a little bit with the need to split the timetable... but still very much worth it.
